Cybersecurity
Taught by industry professionals, Alvernia’s cybersecurity major focuses on current and future threats affecting individuals, networks and infrastructures. Coursework is specifically designed to prepare students for employment in both the private and government sectors. Outside of the classroom, students have the opportunity to conduct research projects that can create real-world impacts. Furthermore, Alvernia is creating a state-of-the-art Cyber Lab for students to gain hands-on learning with hardware and software in a controlled environment. Beyond the classroom, professional networking opportunities are available through the Berks Cyber Alliance.
Data Science
The data science program combines techniques and knowledge from many fields including computer science and mathematics. Data science majors will learn to use current technologies and software solutions, priming students to pursue careers in industrial, governmental and professional fields. Additionally, Alvernia is proud to be recognized as a SAS Tier 1 Academic Specialized Institution. This designation is given to programs that provide at least 6 credits of hands-on usage with SAS Analytics software. Students who successfully complete Alvernia’s BS in Data Science will be able to earn a co-branded badge by SAS/Â鶹ÊÓƵ to denote that they have demonstrated critical skills in the field of data science using SAS.
Computer Science/AI
Students in the computer science major will design machine learning and AI algorithms in upper-level coursework. Special focus will be paid to creating algorithms that are efficient and effective. There are multiple opportunities for high-level research with influential government agencies and companies.
